A KENT football club has had its clubhouse trashed by thieves. Almost every room was vandalised, including offices and the bar and kitchen.
Homelands Stadium, home of Ashford Town FC was broken into on Sunday night, it has been revealed..
Doors were smashed, cupboards emptied and desks and furniture tipped over. Spirits and beer were stolen, as well as £60 in bar tips.
Club chief executive Mark Jenner, who revealed five propane gas cylinders were stolen last month, said: “The amount of damage is devastating.
“About six years ago we did go through a spate of thefts, but we have been relatively trouble-free.
"It is so demoralising for the people of the club who are in the main volunteers and keep the club going on a shoe-string and keep it looking respectful. “It is one big kick in the teeth.”
The club is defiant the thieves will not keep them down for long and that functions, including a wedding reception at the weekend, will go ahead.
General manager Peter Young said: “Everything will go on as normal. We had the school cup finals on Monday with all the police and forensics doing their stuff in the background. Why upset kids because of these people’s actions?
“But this is Ashford Town, not Manchester United. Money is tight and this has hit us hard.”
Kent Police are investigating the incident and have appealed for information.
