More than 40 volunteers turned out on Saturday for a special clean-up session in Tenterden town centre.

The police, the mayor and members of Tenterden Rotary Club were among the volunteers armed with litter-pickers and black rubbish sacks who joined forces for the rubbish collection.

A large area was covered by the volunteers who filled 32 rubbish sacks.

It was organised by community group Transition Town Tenterden, whose founder Jeff Hickmott said: “The worst areas were probably the hedge along Sandy Lane, the field behind Shrubcote and the leisure centre car park.
“We had 42 participants in total, some as young as six or seven-years-old and others in their 70s or 80s."

Among the rubbish colelctors were Ian Klemen, Jan Page and Sally Klemen (pictured).
