THIEVES using the so-called Lebanese Loop have targeted cash points in Tenterden and Ashford.
Police received reports last Friday morning from Tescos in Small Hythe Lane, Tenterden, that a device was attached to the cash machine.
Kent Police Fraud Squad attended and it was removed for examination. Police arrested a 30-year-old London man who has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Later the same day, at about 12.30pm, a member of the public contacted the police to report that the cash point at Tesco Express in Mace Lane, Ashford, appeared to have a device fitted to it. Officers attended, but the device had been removed before they arrived.
Det Insp Gavin Moss, of Ashford Police, said: “In both instances, members of the public noticed the devices on the cash point machines.
"Before using a cash machine we recommend that the user has a good look at the machine to check that it has not been tampered with. If in doubt, speak to staff or telephone the police.
"Do not attempt to remove the device. The offenders stay close to machines they have targeted and any attempt to tamper with them may result in violence."
He added: "As a precaution, when keying in a PIN, cover the key pad with your hand to prevent anyone seeing your number.”
