Watch out for fake £20 notes in Ashford

Traders and shoppers have been warned to watch out for fake £20 notes in circulation.

Then bills, which have appeared in Ashford and the rest of Kent, are poor imitations but some have still been fooled by them, police say.

Ashford Licensing officer PC Dave Griffiths said: "The notes are poor quality counterfeits and it appears they have been ink-jetted onto low quality paper.

"Despite this a number of premises have accepted them.

"I urge all retailers to check £20 notes carefully and if they are passed any counterfeits to retain them and contact us."

Some of the recovered duds have the same serial numbers AD75 507125 and some end with 8880.

If you are in possession of a forgery contact South Kent Police on 01303 289180. or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
