A 29-year-old woman killed in a crash with a police car responding to an emergency call was the mother of an eight-year-old daughter and was due to marry, it has been revealed.

Rachel Cheesewright worked as a barmaid at the Bonny Cravat public house at in the village of Woodchurch, near Ashford.

She died when a marked police Skoda collided with her Ford Fiesta at the junction of the A28 and Brissenden Green Lane, just outside Bethersden, at 11.10pm on Saturday night.

Ms Cheesewright was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. She lived in Ashford and was due to get married next year.

The two police officers received minor injuries and were taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford for treatment.

Independent Police Complaints Commission Commissioner Tom Davies said: "I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the dead woman's family for their tragic loss.

"The IPCC deployed a deputy senior investigator and an investigator to the incident in the early hours of Sunday morning and we will be managing the investigation to discover what happened.

"We are also appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward. Also, we would like information from anyone who may have seen the Ford Fiesta being driven along Brissenden Green Lane or the Police Skoda along the A28."
