One onlooker says the damage was caused by four boys using a catapult at the junction of Bredgar Close and Monkton Close.

Police say they are now appealing for more information in a bid to help their investigation.

It is not the first catapult-related incident to affect residents of Stanhope.

Its Parish Hall in Otterden Close was believed to have been smashed when vandals targeted it in October 2019.

Eighteen months later, a cruel catapult attack on a kitten left it with facial injuries and sparked a police witness appeal.

This was followed just months later by an oblivious 13-year-old landing himself in hot water after being caught using a catapult right in front of a police officer in the area.

Meanwhile, a group of youths reportedly “fired a catapult” at a seagull and “beat” it to death in Stanhope in August 2023.
