Work is underway to turn a series of disused industrial buildings into a leisure complex near a town centre.
Scaffolding has been erected around three derelict buildings at Dover Place in Ashford including a former corn store and youth theatre, which is next to the Cameo nightclub.
It comes after plans submitted by Ashford Borough Council (ABC) for The Coachworks scheme - which only has a five-year lifespan - were approved at a council meeting in January.
The £850,000 development only has a short lifespan as the land is due to become the second phase of the Commercial Quarter in later years.
Construction started in April and will continue over the summer months - with a final completion date yet to be confirmed by council chiefs.
Carl Turner Architects has been commissioned to draw up the design plan for the site - which will be divided into four zones consisting of a food and drink destination, office space and a performance area capable of showing theatre performances and cinema screenings.
The 5,500 sq ft building which was formerly occupied by the Ashford Youth Theatre is set to become the centrepiece of the project - featuring an eye-catching mezzanine level and transforming into a lantern at night.
The three-storey former corn store will be converted into a business hub with start-up work spaces and shared facilities, hosting up to 200 people.
Part of the outdoor area - branded The Event Yard - will feature tiered seating, ideal for theatre and cinema performances and live sports screenings.
An ABC spokesman said: "Work is underway to transform buildings in Dover Place into an exciting indoor and outdoor events, food and drink destination and small business start-up hub.
"The Coachworks forms the latest phase of the Commercial Quarter, which is helping to transform the area between the town centre and the international rail station.
"More details of the construction programme will be announced soon, including details of the installation of the Hot House translucent wall cladding and the completion of the courtyard area."
Earlier this year, ABC said the complex is expected to open in the late summer.
