Exciting plans for a new supermarket, brewery and hotel in the heart of Ashford will go on display this week.
Members of the public are invited to two exhibitions which will unveil the proposed schemes for two vacant sites in Victoria Road, also known as Victoria Way.
The first parcel of land, on the south side of the road and cushioned between Beaver Road and George Street, is set to become home to a new Aldi store, a 120-bed hotel and 200 plus new homes.
U+I developers, who are staging the consultations, are trying to acquire the six acre site from landowners, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), and if successful, will submit a planning application for the project later this year.
The second proposal is for a new brewery and visitor centre, which would lie opposite Aldi on the north side of Victoria Way, on the corner closest to the railway station.
It is being proposed by winemaker Chapel Down, based in Smallhythe near Tenterden, which last year launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the new factory.
With the £1 million target reached, it is anticipated that a planning application for the scheme will come this year.
Together, the two projects are expected to see an increase of £3.9 million in spend per annum in the town by new residents and tourists visiting the attractions.
In addition, there will be an increase in employment with the creation of 203 jobs and 40 new indirect jobs.
A spokesman for U+I said the regeneration will “transform two unloved sites on Victoria Road”.
The first exhibition will be held at the food court at the Ashford Designer Outlet, off Kimberley Way, on Friday between 10am and 6pm and also on Saturday between 10am and 4pm.
Samples of Chapel Down’s Curious Beer and Cider will be on offer.
The second will be held at County Square shopping centre, off the High Street, next Tuesday and Wednesday between 11am and 5pm. Free Easter eggs will be on offer.
Developers U+I are also planning on re-developing the former Powergen site in Victoria Way.
This land is earmarked for 660 new homes across nine acres.
U+I are working on plans in partnership with developer Quinn Estates, based in Canterbury.
Together they have exchanged contracts with Neighbour, a specialist residential partner, to deliver 400 of these as "modern stylish homes" for the private rented sector.
A planning application for this project has been submitted to the council.
