A Land Rover with no wheels that was deemed a danger by parents has been removed from a residential street following a phone call from police.
Yesterday we reported how dad Dave Gathern was among residents who contacted police when the wheels were removed from an old Land Rover in Bucksford Lane, Singleton, Ashford, leaving it precariously balanced.
Initially police said there was nothing they could do but this morning they released a statement saying they have spoken to the vehicle's owner who has moved it.
A spokesman said: "Kent Police contacted the owner of a vehicle parked in Bucksford Lane, Singleton, after receiving a report that teenagers were sliding beneath it and putting themselves in danger.
"The vehicle was taxed, insured and parked legally but the owner agreed to move it due to the safety concerns raised."
Mr Gathern had feared children would view the heavy off-road vehicle as a potential playground and asked the authorities to remove it before someone was hurt but was told there was nothing that could be done.
He said: “My son is a typical boy and him and his 10 and 11-year-old mates would think it was a wonderful thing. They’d be wanting to climb into it, on it and under it.
“You’ve only got to rock it a little bit and it will crash down on top of them. A bit of preventative medicine would not go amiss here.”
Mr Gathern said the vehicle has been in the road for a while but he didn’t regard it as a danger until he noticed the wheels were missing on New Year’s Eve.
Police initially said: "The callers have been informed the vehicle is insured and parked legally on the road.”
