10k road race takes on new look

ORGANISERS of the annual Quest 10k road race in Ashford are promising a new look to this year’s event taking place on Sunday, October 10.

The race will have a new route, a new start time at 10am, and joining Quest there are two additional sponsors in the form of Ashford International Hotel and Ashford School.

Race director Paul Jakeman explained “We have decided to ‘relaunch’ the 10k this year in a drive to significantly increase the numbers of runners and spectators.

“We have had very strong support from the police and Kent Highways and this year the route will take in large residential areas of Ashford.

“The aim is to increase the number of entrants by 20 per cent and the number of spectators by 500 per cent. He added: “The prize pool is worth £1,300 so winners will see an increase compared to last year, but we are also having some spot prizes to encourage the likes of you and I who may not finish in a high position but who can still stand a chance of winning a prize.”

Entry fees for the race cost £8 for AAA affiliated athletes, £9 for the unattached and £12 on the day.

There will also be a children’s fun run, for which entry is £2.50.

Full details about both the main race and the fun run are available on a new website the address for which is www.ashford10k.co.uk
