Bobbett takes putter competition title

PETER BOBBETT took top honours in the Sir Dudlery Bowater Putter competition at Ashford Golf Club with a two shot victory from Jon Hill.
Bobbett, who plays off a 12 handicap went round in 78 for an excellent 66 to hold off the challenge of 11-handicapper Hill who ended on net 68 after a round of 79.
Close behind was Michael owen (h13) whose 82 secured him third place with a net 69 and three players ended with net 70 led by Tony Brown, Keith James and Russell Keep.
Last week Ashford also staged their Junior Open tournament with some outstanding play from the visiting youngsters.
The 36-hole scratch honours went to North Foreland's James Horn with rounds of 75, 72 for a 147 total and a comfortable five shot win from Michael Bush of Kingshill with 75, 77 on 152.
The best opening round was a 73 from Lennie Ridley of Woodlands Manor but a second round 80 saw him secure third place with 153.
The Lindsell Trophy for the best Ashford entry went to Sam Huetson.
In the handicap competition rising talent James Fox from Canterbury GC, who is still under-14, led the way with net rounds of 71 and 64 off a 17-handicap to win by two shots from Mark Hutton of Woodlands Manor and Etchinghill's Jonathan Smith.
