Leon Camier recorded two top-nine finishes in the latest round of the FIM World Superbike Championhips at Assen in Holland on Sunday.

The Ashford-born FIXI Crescent Suzuki rider, back in action after suffering a serious knee injury in a crash in Spain two weeks ago, followed up his ninth place first time out by finishing seventh, edging out team-mate Jules Cluzel.

Camier (pictured) said: “I was happy, even though my leg and body felt they were in bits at the end. I was just pleased to finish both races.

“We took a gamble and changed the set-up dramatically in the first race after the warm-up and then changed it a lot again in the second race but it felt more like the bike I am used to.

“I felt like I had the pace to run towards the front and was making some big passes in race two and then got caught up in a battle with Jules.”

The pair swapped places several times, before Camier held on, after making a great start from 18th on the grid. Camier started the opening race 12th, gradually making his way through the field.
