Leon Camier’s MotoGP debut ended prematurely due to electronic problems at Indianapolis on Sunday.

Ashford born, 28-year-old Camier replaced American Nicky Hayden, sidelined with a wrist injury in the Drive M7 Aspar team, but quickly got to grips with his new surroundings, riding his Honda RCV1000R to qualify in 16th place.

Without a ride in 2014 after losing his Iodaracing spot at the last minute, Camier was forced to pit on lap 10, before retiring 10 laps later, admitting he knew things weren’t right at the start.

Camier said: “Something was wrong, but I continued pushing hard; I just wanted to ride, have fun and try to finish as best I could.

“As the laps went by the problem increased and I was forced to return to the garage. It was a shame....because we had done a great job.

“I am satisfied, the experience was terrific and learned many new things. Above all I learned during the race, and found what we need to do to improve.

“I like the chassis and the bike suits my riding style, so I am sure I can go faster."

Camier is back in action on Sunday when he travels to Brno in the Czech Republic.
