Neil Cugley is warning his squad they are playing for their futures ahead of what he describes as a make-or-break month at the Fullicks Stadium.

The Folkestone Invicta boss, disappointed by his club’s inconsistent start to the season, said: “We have got a massive month ahead and results and performances need to improve.

“The players have got to show me what they can do, otherwise I will consider changes.

“We might also have to up the ante in terms of money in trying to compete with other teams. Last season we got it right on the pitch but were struggling off it, now it’s the opposite.”

Cugley made his first decision this week, releasing 31-year-old striker Steve Harper, the move never working out for either player or club.

He said: “I let Steve go due to his work commitments, especially as he has struggled to get to training.

“We need to work on things in training to try and put matters right and he couldn’t commit to that.

Harper scored in his his final game in the 6-0 drubbing of Ryman League, Division 1 North strugglers Waltham Forest in the FA Trophy Preliminary Round on Saturday.

Striker Johan Ter Horst is expected to return against Whitstable on Saturday after missing Monday's 3-0 defeat at Hastings with a dead-leg. Midfielder Jake Beecroft is ruled out for two weeks with a hamstring injury.

Defender Chris Elliott is available after a three-match ban.
