Sam Denly is refusing to let the lack of football get the better of him.

Two more postponements against Corinthian Casuals and Folkestone Invicta have handed Herne Bay another free week but the Winch’s Field boss is making sure his squad keep ticking over.

Denly said: “We haven’t missed a training session since the bad weather arrived. We have a good connection with Abbey School through our physio Gemma Horswill, who works there.

“We did a couple of hours on Saturday after the Casuals game was called off, working on game plans, phases of play and making sure the players stay fit.

“The weather is making it frustrating but you have to stay positive.”

Bay’s trip to Folkestone Invicta on Tuesday was the latest weather casualty, following a 5pm pitch inspection, as heavy rain hit the county.

The lack of home games is becoming an increasing problem for the Ryman League, Division 1 South club. The last game at Winch's Field was on December 14 and Denly admitted: “The club are being good. The lack of revenue hasn’t impacted on the playing side yet.”

Bay have only played twice this month and face a busy February with seven games scheduled, beginning with Saturday’s trip to in-form Burgess Hill. They follow that by visiting Faversham Town on Tuesday (7.45pm).
