ASHFORD Athletic Club’s Lisa Dobriskey proudly carried the Kent club’s vest to a superb second place in the women’s 1500m Olympic Trials in Manchester.
But it was just not enough to earn her a place in the squad for Athens despite another personal best performance of 4:08.18.
The Loughborough student pipped Helen Clitheroe on the line for second but winner Hayley Tullett has already made the Olympic qualifying time and gets the second slot in the squad alongside Kent’s Kelly Holmes.
Meanwhile, there was a double gold for Ashford's Nick Leavey in the English Schools national championships at a cold and windy Gateshead.
Leavey goes from strength to strength winning the senior boys 400m with an English standard time of 47.78 after comfortably qualifying in second in his heat.
Ashford pole vaulter AnneMarie Price took a bronze in the IG event with a leap of 2.85m.
