Double golfing triumph for Wood

MEMBERS of Ashford Golf Club marked the end of another busy season with their annual presentation night. Jamie Wood confirmed his status as a rising star having emerged from the club's junior ranks to do the double of club championship and Club Trophy.
Wood also took the Bertie Flower Foursomes with Kevin Smith who had an outstanding summer. In the women's section Helen Batt had another exceptional year winning the ladies championship and Startup Cup as well as taking the Kingsford Cup with Kevin Mackay.
Shell Foster had a superb day at the championships taking the handicap prize and the best gross bronze cup. The consistent Sue Norman has been a regular visitor to the trophy table over the seasons and she picked up the Edwards Cup, Major Cups with Jenny Lloyd and shared the Roy Bowles Cup with Jackie Pepper.
Jackie also took the Mixed Foursomes knockout honours with Robert Young.
Kevin Smith also won the President's Cup, Winch Cup and Norman Cup as well as finishing runner-up in the championships. Paul Young had a steady year scoring consistently to go on to win the Merit Trophy competed for by all the major trophy leading finishers.
Paul also took the Four Ball Winter League trophy with Keith Elvin and was runner-up in the Colville Cup to promising young player Mark Sherman, son of club professional Hugh Sherman. Steve Hunt had a good year winning three trophies.
Several competitions and medals this year were victims of the bad weather.
