SILVERWARE: Laura Fox

ASHFORD Athletics Club thrower Laura Fox secured a silver medal at the AAAs Under-20 indoor championships last weekend to earn a call-up for the England junior squad in Wales this coming Sunday.

Fox, from Headcorn, threw the shot an excellent 11m 63cm to finish runner-up at Birmingham for her first national medal indoors.

Her series of six throws was one of her best ever with five of the throws well over 11 metres. It reflects the hard work and weight training that she has put in during the winter.

She has been selected for the England U20 team in the Home Countries Indoors International in Cardiff on Sunday.

Fox, who was ranked nationally third in the discus last summer, throws the shot as a second event but considers Sunday’s event as an important milestone in her athletics career.

During a busy weekend, the talented 18-year-old travels to Chelmsford on Saturday to defend her KAAA Indoor shot title.

Fox is an A-level student at Homewood School in Tenterden. She trains with Mark Chapman at Maidstone.
