Home gym dominates in powerlifting championships

THE SE Unequipped powerlifting championships were hosted by the Railway Gym in Ashford and attracted 26 lifters from around the south east.

Four lifters from the Railway were in action and had an excellent day, all taking gold in their sections with Des Akowauh winning the best senior lifter award.

Des won the 125kg class in fine style to qualify for the British championships.

He performed well in all the disciplines with a 250kg squat, 145kg bench press and a 285kg deadlift for a 680kg total.

Andy Brown also qualified for the British championships winning the 82.5kg class

He recorded a 170kg squat, 115kg bench press and a strong 225kg deadlift for a 510kg total.
