Tommy Warrilow admits it could take a month for things to settle down at Ashford United.

Rival clubs have come in for some of Warrilow's players while the new manager has his eye on potential signings.

He was able to name an unchanged team in his first match in charge - a 2-1 win at Phoenix Sports on Saturday.

But Warrilow knows there is likely to be some movement in the wake of Gary Alexander's sacking last week.

He said: "To be fair to the lads they've been good. The way it came out (Alexander being told by text) wasn't the right way.

"But we had a meeting on Tuesday to discuss it all and Thursday again and all we can do is get on with it.

"Time's a great healer and the players have been fine. We've been honest with them and they've been honest with us.

"We've had some seven-day approaches come in that we need to address but I knew that was coming.

"I want them to stay and work with them but if they don't want to stay, that's fine.

"We have got irons in the fire but it's still a little bit raw because none of the boys have said they're going to go.

"At the same time, if we do bring players in, we've got to make sure players have gone out.

"It's going to take a month or so to get some continuity into the side and the way we want to play, as well as perhaps freshening things up.

"It's all right me saying they want to go but there might be some players that, after a few games, we might not want in our system.

"I'm being very understanding and lenient to the lads but at the same time you don't take anything for granted in football.

"When they go out, they do their job and they're professional. If they do it well, they stay in the side but if they drop their standards, like any club, we'll look to freshen it up.

"But we did say we'll give everyone a chance and we're sticking to that."

Warrilow takes charge of his first home game on Saturday when Ashford, seventh in Bostik South East, face fourth-placed Whyteleafe.

He said: "You just want to stay in and around it going into the new year.

"The most important thing now is to calm everything down around the club, which I think is happening. It's been a long week but everything now is out in the open.

"If we can keep moving up the table, brilliant, but if we don't, we'll need to address things that aren't working.

"It's a tight league and we're not going to get carried away with one win."
