Scott Porter admits the forthcoming football-free weekend has come at a good time for his depleted Hythe squad.

After coming through four fixtures in 11 days, Porter’s side don’t have another competitive game until they host Tilbury in the FA Trophy on October 19.

Tom Hickman and Rhys Lawson missed Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Horsham due to work commitments, Lee Winfield was ill and Josh Burchell came off with a hamstring injury.

Hythe had hoped to schedule a Ryman League, Division 1 South game for this weekend but Porter said a 12-day break was no bad thing.

He said: “It does come at a good time. I said that after the game on Tuesday. A few people will do some work in the gym but some others need a bit of TLC.

“We did try (to arrange a league game) but there are so many teams in the FA Cup, so there were only a couple of options.”

With almost a quarter of the season gone, Hythe have 14 points from 11 outings. Their next two league games are against teams in the top-eight – Leatherhead and Redhill.

Porter, aiming to repeat last season’s run to the play-offs, said: “We’ve got some big games coming up. The weather’s going to get worse, so that’s a leveller as well.

“I’m not fazed at all – I’m happy with what I’ve got."
