Scott Porter will ensure his Hythe side focus on the job in hand when the club break new ground with their trip to Ryman League, Division 1 South newcomers Guernsey on Saturday.

Porter’s squad will stay at a Gatwick hotel on Friday night before flying out to the Channel Island early on Saturday morning for the 1pm kick-off.

All Hythe’s expenses will be paid for Guernsey as part of the agreement when they were admitted to the Ryman League but Porter insisted: “Although it’s something a bit different for the players, I will be stressing the importance of going there with a professional approach and coming away with three points.

“Guernsey are starting to find their feet (in the league) and are regarded as one of the favourites because of their big crowds. It will be a good test for us.”

Porter doesn’t have the same financial resources at his disposal which helps to explain his decision to release midfielder Nick Barnes.

The Hythe boss has also agreed a straight swap deal with Folkestone counterpart Neil Cugley, with striker Michael Yianni going to Invicta and midfielder Josh Burchell coming to Reachfields.

He said: “Josh wanted a new challenge and I have always liked him as a player, while I’m sure Neil feels the same way about Michael.”

Porter has skipper Dave Cook available again on Saturday after suspension but defender Pat Kingwell serves a one-match ban.
