Kennington are one result away from going through November unbeaten.

Ton have steadily improved in recent weeks and just need to avoid defeat at home to Sutton Athletic tomorrow (3pm) to complete an excellent month’s work.

They’re up to 16th in the SCEFL Premier Division, four points clear of the bottom two, after Ed Miller’s injury-time equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Corinthian.

They’ve played more games than the sides around them but that’s not the end of the world.

“We go into Sutton currently unbeaten this month, which is a big achievement,” said boss Dan Scorer.

“Hopefully we can finish the month unbeaten and put some more points on the board against a Sutton side that are rejuvenated.

“I’m expecting a real tough test there but hopefully we can close the gap on them and open up a gap on the sides below us.

“We know they’ve got games in hand but we were in that position last year and we saw it as a positive but it wasn’t easy.

“While you want it to be a positive and say, if we win this, if we win that, if we get points here, if we get points there, it doesn’t really mean anything unless you actually do it.

“At the moment we’re putting points on the board and that’s the most important thing.

“I’m sure in the next six weeks teams will have caught up and then we can reassess where we are but hopefully we’re in a position where we’re not finding ourselves in the bottom two going into the last two or three months of the season.”

Defender Miller was the unlikely saviour as Kennington claimed a crucial point at Corinthian last Saturday, scoring a 96th-minute leveller.

“It’s really pleasing to come away from another tough away game with a point,” said Scorer.

“Corinthian are a very good side at home, they’re difficult to break down.

“We seem to have built up a resilience in the last couple of weeks, which I’m really proud of the boys for.

“They’ve shown a lot more desire to see games out and what’s been more pleasing than anything is the fact we’ve shown three really good 90-minute performances.

“We had a fantastic win against Larkfield, we followed it up with a good point away at Fisher and then we showed tremendous character on Saturday after going 1-0 down.

“We kept going and kept pushing and got our reward with a goal in the 96th minute.

“It wasn’t the most likely source in terms of the goalscorer but Ed Miller’s been absolutely superb for us this month, he’s had a great season, to be fair.

“I’m not quite sure why our centre-half has popped up at the back post on the left-hand side but, nevertheless, we’re grateful he was there to tap the ball in.”

Kennington are benefiting from a tweak in style, with the senior players helping the younger lads along.

Scorer said: “We’re showing signs of progress.

“The boys are buying into the message that we’ve given because we did have to change things up slightly and have a slightly different approach.

“Full credit to the boys for sticking at it and taking it in their stride.

“The senior players have been a crucial part of us being able to progress the way we have in the last few weeks.

“Their commitment to making sure everyone’s doing their job over the course of 90 minutes has been phenomenal, so a lot of credit must go to them.

“And the young lads that are making the squad up and getting opportunities to play their football are buying into the fact they’ve got to play a different style sometimes.

“It’s not all about enjoying your football, sometimes you do have to work hard off the ball and you get your rewards from doing that.”
