Ashford United manager Tommy Warrilow has sent an ominous warning to Isthmian South East rivals by declaring that his side have still yet to peak this season.

Fresh from another three points following their 4-1 thrashing of Sevenoaks Town on Saturday – their sixth league victory in a row – United now sit a healthy 10 points clear of Cray Valley’s final play-off position in sixth.

Despite brushing aside another of their promotion rivals at the weekend, Warrilow maintains that the Homelands outfit still have another gear to find in the coming months.

“There were bits on Saturday that still infuriated me, so it shows there’s loads more to come in all honesty,” the United boss said.

“We’re shoring up the defence, not making individual mistakes and collective errors, so the pros are definitely outweighing the cons at the moment.

“As I said last week, we’re slowly getting stronger each game and a couple of boys even had to sit it out on Saturday, and I’ve only ever had to do that once before in the past.”

With nine of Warrilow’s starting line-up on Saturday featuring more than 20 times for the club this season, the Nuts & Bolts boss insists being patient in the transfer market is now helping the team find consistency on the field.

He added: “We had a few lads who didn’t have the best first-half of the season, but who are now beginning to find their stride and show who they really are.

“Good players don’t become bad players overnight, so you have to find out how to solve the problems you have and if it was that easy to do then everybody would be doing it.

“It’s about having the patience to correct things when they’re not going right, and it’s fine getting a player here and a player there, but they have to be right and I’ve always tried to do that.”

United, who have hit the net a league best 51 times so far this campaign, will aim to strengthen their grip on second place at Cray Valley this weekend, something Warrilow believes they are more than able to do.

“If we turn up again on Saturday with the right heads on and don’t make mistakes, then I know we’ll be fine,” he said.

“A lot of the goals we’ve conceded this year have been our own fault, so it is down to us to make sure we don’t mess about, because we all know what we’re capable of doing.”
