Ashford United midfielder Adem Ramadan is to undergo surgery after suffering a double leg break.

Ramadan, 27, was stretchered off during the second half of the Nuts & Bolts’ Kent derby at Hythe on Bank Holiday Monday.

The match, which was goalless, was abandoned as Ramadan was taken to hospital.

In a statement, Ashford boss Kevin Watson said: “Following X-rays, Adem has suffered a lower double break of his tibia and fibula.

“He will now be put in a cast for 48 hours and then will have surgery on his leg to help repair the breaks.”

Ramadan rejoined Ashford this summer and in an interview with KentOnline last week told how much he was enjoying his new role in the side.

Watson thanked all the medical staff at Reachfields for helping the stricken player.

He said: “Firstly, a true appreciation must go to the medical staff from both clubs who acted with the utmost professionalism.

“Secondly, to all those associated with Hythe Town Football Club; the management, staff and players responded with admirable care and consideration and for that we thank you.

“The spectators from both clubs rightly clapped Adem off as he was taken to the ambulance.

“To our players who have witnessed a valued team-mate endure such an injury, you demonstrated what it means to be a great team-mate.

“Whilst we await news on the extent of the injury, I can say without hesitation that Adem will remain a valued member of our squad in whichever capacity he is able.

“Adem was tasked with the challenge of getting back to his best. I’m sure those that have witnessed his performances over pre-season and in this early part of the season will agree that he was meeting that challenge.”

Hythe have sent their best wishes to Ramadan, whose former clubs include Tonbridge and Margate.

Cannons boss Steve Watt said: “Thoughts are with Adem Ramadan tonight.

“Everyone at Hythe Town is wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing you back on the pitch as soon as possible.”
