Ashford Hockey Club men’s 1st team take on High Wycombe at home this Saturday (2.30) in their final South Premier League Division 2 game of the season.
And Ashford know that, with the relegation battle so tight, they need a victory to ensure they stay up.
Ashford goalkeeper Keir Starley said: "The team that loses this game may well face the drop, so having home advantage is crucial and we are hoping for a big crowd to cheer us on."
Last Saturday Ashford boosted their survival chances with a 1-0 win over Richmond - their fourth win in five matches.
But Ashford were grateful to their defence for keeping a clean sheet after the forwards were guilty of missing several chances to have produced a comfortable victory.
After a goalless first half, Ashford scored the only goal midway through the second half - and it was a beauty by Sam Handley.
Picking the ball up in the area and surrounded by four defenders, Handley cleverly moved swiftly to his right and smashed the ball home at full stretch.
