Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley heaped praise on young striker Johan Ter Horst after watching him score his first goal of the season in Monday’s 1-1 draw against neighbours Hythe.

Cugley said: “Credit to both teams. There were
20-odd players out there giving everything but I thought Johan was different class.

“For somebody just 18-years-old, I thought he was sensational. It was a local derby but he showed no nerves and I thought he mullered them in the end, he was brilliant. I am glad we have got him and Hythe haven’t.”

“I love watching him and seeing him get better and better. If he carries it on, I don’t know where he might finish up.

“His movement is excellent, sometimes too good even for our standard because we are limited players. You watch him come off people, drop his shoulder and get in behind but we don’t quite hit the pass for him.

“He is not the biggest but he is brave and hard to play against. Could he play in the Football League? I think so.”

Invicta host Combined Counties League Molesey in the FA Cup preliminary pound on Saturday. The Surrey side include Craig Lewington, son of England assistant coach Ray, in their squad. Steve Harper, unavailable at the weekend, returns.

If no replay is needed, Invicta will host holders Charlton in the first round of the Kent Senior Cup on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
