Ashford athletes excelled in the Charing 10k on Saturday where 150 finishers were headed by Matt Britton.
Birtton finished in a time of 35min 30sec, just ahead of 15-year-old Declan Burton (35.32) of the local club.
Twelve men broke 40 minutes, including Stephen Poole (Larkfield AC, 38.56). Just outside that threshold were Joe Cumberland (Istead and Ifield Harriers, 40.07) and Gary Hughes (Medway and Maidstone, 40.30). David Thornby (Maidstone Harriers, 42.25) was the leading over-60 master.
Alison Howe (Egerton Running Club, 40.54) took the women’s race from Janine Brown (Maidstone Harriers, 42.51) and W40 Candy Hawkins (Ashford, 46.22).
Wingham Trotters held their 26th annual 10k and 5k races from Wingham Village Recreation Ground on Sunday.
There were 230 athletes in action, with the main race attracting 171 runners.
Peter Hogben (Ashford, 35.11) was two minutes clear of Robbie Higgins (Dartford Road Runners, 37.15) in the men’s race. Sarah Maguire (W35 Canterbury Harriers, 44.15) took the women’s race from Gill Holmes (W35 Sittingbourne Striders, 46.20) by a similar margin.
Thomas Newman (WarwickUniversity, 19.26) and Sarah Hinton (Jelly Legs, 24.49) took the honours in the 5k event.
