Leon Camier will have to pass a medical on Thursday before being cleared to ride in the 14th and final round of this year’s FIM World Superbike Championship at Jerez in Spain on Sunday.

The Ashford-born FIXI Crescent rider has missed the two previous races in the United States and France, after suffering seven broken bones in his right foot following a crash in Turkey last month.

Camier has been in the wars after crashing in Germany two weeks earlier.

He was flown to hospital but scans on his neck proved all-clear.

Camier said: “I have made massive progress and even surprised the doctors because they said I wouldn’t make it back this weekend.

“My foot is still a bit swollen but is improving all the time and it’s just my general fitness that I need to work on.”

Camier has dropped to 12th in the overall standings with 114 points.

If passed fit, it will be his first competitive ride at Jerez, having only tested there once before.
