ASHFORD Athletics Club's 100m sprinter Gary Carr has been selected for Scotland twice in one week.
Carr, from Willesborough, near Ashford, was selected for his first senior international competition in Slovenia last weekend after running a personal best of 10.54secs to finish eighth in the CAU inter counties at Bedford the previous weekend.
In Slovenia, Carr sped to a time of 11.10secs in a headwind of -2.0m/s and was part of the relay team that finished third in an impressive time of 40.63.
Following these performances Carr was selected to compete for Scotland in the prestigious Loughborough match, which sees Scotland take on Great Britain Juniors, England, Loughborough Students, and the British University Team.
He helped the Scotland 4x100m relay team to victory in 40.88 and in the 100m was fifth in the B final with 10.85.
Following his early season success Carr has been identified as a key part of the Scottish relay squad for the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Australia. His aims for the rest of the season are to win a medal at the Scottish Senior Championships and is looking to gain his first Great Britain vest.
Carr is currently studying for a HND and is a part of the Athletics Youth Academy at Canterbury High School. He is looking for a sponsor to aid him in his quest for further success. Anyone who may be able to help is asked to contact Peter Le Rossignol on 07919927710 or e-mail ontrack@50g.com
