Stuart Zanone may be grabbing all the headlines but Paul Chambers insists Ashford United are not a one-man team.
The United boss watched the striker score for a record-breaking 11th game running in the 3-1 win at Southern Counties East bottom-side Erith Town on Saturday but was full of praise for the rest of the side, as they secured an eighth victory in a row.
Chambers (pictured below) said: “Stuart is a top lad and a goalscorer, that’s why we wanted to bring him to the club.
“I am not interested in records but there are 10 other players who are also running their socks off for the side. ”
United suffered more frustration with the weather after Tuesday night’s latest call-off, against unbeaten leaders Phoenix Sports.
Heavy overnight rain left Homelands waterlogged and the pitch failed to pass a 10am inspection.
Third-placed United are still 15 points behind Phoenix who dropped their first league points since September on Saturday, in a 0-0 draw at Woodstock Sports.
Meanwhile, striker Andy Irvine has left United to join Ryman League, Division 1 South East Grinstead.
He made his debut in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Merstham, playing a part in the only goal.
Chambers said: “Andy is a good player but Zanone and Darren Marsden are on fire at the moment and causing all sorts of problems.
“He probably thought his chances were going to be limited between now and the end of the
season.
United face Beckenham Town on Saturday (3pm). Liam Whiting is available after suspension.
