Paul Chambers says Ashford United’s 7-0 FA Vase win at Hassocks on Tuesday night was a pleasure to watch.

The victory earned the Homelands club prize money of £1,200 and a place in the third round on Saturday week.

They are among six Southern Counties East League clubs still involved, all of whom were drawn away in Monday’s draw.

Boss Chambers said: “We played well throughout the 90 minutes. We scored some good goals and everything about the way we played was pleasing. It was a nice stadium and pitch and the ball zipped around which suited us.”

United were due to find out on Wednesday who they will face next after being paired at either Abingdon United or Littlehampton – who led 3-1 at one stage in a 4-4 extra-time draw at the weekend.

Darren Marsden, who scored twice at Hassocks, maintains dual-registration terms at Homelands. The former Faversham midfielder signed for Ryman League, Division 1 South Whitstable last week, making his debut in the 2-0 defeat at Walton & Hersham on Saturday.

Chambers said: “Whitstable offered Darren a good deal, more than we could offer him but although he is registered with both clubs, neither club has first call on him. He is a good player and enjoying his football. It’s up to Darren to decide what he wants to do.”

Ashford travel to Lingfield in the league on Saturday.
