Ashford Rugby Club will be staging its sixth annual beer and rugby festival from September 5-7, 2008, and are seeking veterans and ladies teams to take part in two rugby tournaments.

The vets tournament on Saturday September 6 will include a team making a return trip 800 miles from Uzes in Southern France, while Ashford 1sts will play an exhibition match, and it is hoped there will be a match featuring the Under 21 development squad. The ladies tournament takes place on Sunday September 7.

All participants can camp for free, and receive free entry to the beer festival, which offers more than 40 real ales and ciders, pig roasts and live music all weekend.

Festival organiser Chris Akers said: “To date we have raised in excess of £8,000 for local charities, and this year we will be collecting for the Wyvern Special Needs School which is also supported by The Wooden Spoon.

“We ask for a minimum of £15 entry for each team as a charitable donation.”
