Folkestone hit the cup trail again this weekend when they enter the FA Trophy with a home tie against Waltham Forest.

Neil Cugley’s side were unlucky to lose 1-0 at Ebbsfleet in the FA Cup on Saturday and the Invicta boss hopes that performance will give his players belief.

Victory against Forest will land Folkestone £2,500 in prize money and a home tie against Kingstonian in the next round.

Cugley said: “There’s a few more bob to be had. We’ve made a few bob out of the FA Cup this year with the two wins and then a share of a good gate on Saturday, so that’s good.

“There are certain players who haven’t done so well in the league for different reasons who played well on Saturday. That should give them a lift. I’m not saying we’re a top-of-the-table side but we’re definitely mid-table.”

Folkestone’s battling display at Ebbsfleet suggested they are more than capable of getting their league season back on track.

“Saturday showed that we’re not far short. I’ve got to start winning things and get the club back up to the Ryman Premier because that’s where Folkestone should be.
“The finances are nearly there for us to be a bigger club. We’ll get better players and push the club on to where it was a few years ago.”

Striker Johan Ter Horst could be back in the Folkestone team on Saturday after recovering from a fractured cheekbone. Cup-tied pair Tim Roberts and Michael Yianni return.
