Lisa Dobriskey will compete in the four-mile Emerald Nuts Midnight Run in New York on December 31.

The 24-year-old Ashford-born athlete, who finished fourth in the Olympic 1500 metres final in Beijing in August, made a big impression the last time she was on Manhattan roads, winning the Continental Airlines Fifth Avenue Mile in September.

Her time of four minutes 18.6 seconds was the second fastest in the race's history.

The race in Central Park starts at midnight on New Year's Eve, with more than 5,000 participants running against a backdrop of fireworks.

She said: “I am really looking forward to it. It is something completely different to anything that I have done before."
