Kent runner Lisa Dobriskey has missed out on receiving top level funding from UK Athletics next year.
After finishing fourth in the 1500m final in the Beijing Olympics, UK Athletics have announced that Dobriskey will be one of 13 athletes who will receive B Level funding next year of between £12,000 and £19,000. But six athletes who are in the A Level grade will receive up to £25,000.
UK Athletics say the number of athletes receiving individual lottery assistance next year will fall by 20 per cent as athletes prepare for the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, and that figure is expected to reduce further as the world class programme gears towards maximising investment into London 2012 medal prospects.
Charles van Commenee, UK Athletics’ newly appointed head coach said: “We have taken a measured and impartial look at our athletes. For 2009 we are focusing our investment on those who we believe will be successful in next summer’s World Championships.”
