Ben Price batted himself into the Kent League record books with a spectacular unbeaten double hundred on Saturday.
The Tenterden captain and wicketkeeper led his team to an emphatic 187-run win over Lordswood at Morghew Park.
The skipper promoted himself to open the innings and the move paid off handsomely, scoring 224 not out off 139 balls, including 27 fours and 10 sixes in a total of 369-1 in 45 overs, with the Medway side then dismissed for only 182.
Price’s score is the third best in Premier Division history, behind James Hockley (283 not out for Hartley against Gore Court in 2009), and Simon Willis (234 for St Lawrence against The Mote in 2000).
While the innings was a personal league best, it was still short of his career highest - 241 in a friendly against Kennington five years ago.
Price said: "We gave our long-serving former captain Andrew Crawford a chance to find a bit of form in the seconds, so I stuck my hand up to try and lead from the front.
"It did a bit early on (after rain delayed the start for an hour) and it wasn't an easy wicket to bat on. The scoreboard flattered us early on, but after a couple of shots I was on my way.
"I found the gaps rather than fielders and it was a chanceless innings. I didn't give anything away, the pitch and the outfield were in superb condition as always, and I took advantage.
"Between 100 and 150 it all felt like a bit of a blur, and tiredness had set-in at that point."
Price added: "We have two former Lordswood players in our side - Linden Lockhart and Ranjit Singh - and it was a massively important win for us as a side.
"Our results have been a bit of a mixed bag, and we have under performed at times, but let's hope we can get on a bit of a roll now."
