Ashford Hockey Club have announced the sudden departure of men’s first team player-coach Aaron Glass.
It follows the regular mid-season coaching review meeting held last week with Australian Glass deciding to leave 48 hours later.
Glass was unhappy with the revised terms offered following a “verbal agreement” in place since his appointment to replace Danny Laslett last year.
He said: “I was annoyed but the club said they couldn’t afford it. It can’t be helped and I wish them the best of luck.”
Skipper Sam Handley, wouldn’t comment, only to say the decision was made by mutual consent. He said: “We are happy with it and now want to move forward.”
A club statement said: “We would like to thank Aaron for all his time and knowledge, he will be missed both on and off the pitch.
“Rob Playford will lead a coaching team as the men’s 1st and 2nd Xl squads look to finish the season strongly.”
Glass leaves with the club fourth in Kent/Sussex Regional 1, having targeted a top-four spot at the mid-season break before a ball was hit.
He now plans to rejoin former club Gore Court having scored around 200 goals in six seasons for the Sittingbourne club, before leaving to join Sutton Valence.
Other changes sees Paul Dawson appointed interim chairman of the club, following Ian Thomas’ decision to stand down late last year. Jeremy Paterson is the new secretary.
