ASHFORD Town begin their Ryman League Division One South promotion quest at home to Walton Casuals this Saturday.
Steve Lovell’s squad, boosted by newly re-signed full-back Daniel Brathwaite, then travel to newly-promoted Sussex County League Division 1 champions Crowborough Athletic on Tuesday evening.
On the signing of Brathwaite, Lovell said: “It’s great to get him back.
“Now we have Danny, Robbie Ryan, Jimmy Bottle, Danny Lye and Charlie Glyde who can all play on the left so we are delighted with the strength that we have in the squad.”
Brathwaite made his return in a Nuts and Bolts’ shirt during Saturday’s final pre-season game at home to Tonbridge Angels. His presence couldn’t prevent Ashford falling to a 1-0 defeat however, against their Ryman League Premier Division opponents.
Town had mixed fortunes against the Casuals last season going down 2-1 at Walton Casuals ground but avenging the defeat in a busy finale to the season with a 2-1 win at Homelands.
Tuesday will be a first ever meeting with Crowborough who have made their first venture up the pyramid into the Ryman League this season despite having been going since 1894.
Former Ashford Town chairman Mark Jenner could be in line to take over as chairman at neighbours Folkestone Invicta following the sudden shock resignation of Invicta chairman Jim Pellatt.
Mr Jenner only joined the Invicta board this month.
