Kennington boss Dan Scorer is working hard to solve his side’s lack of goals.

Ton have played well for much of the season but are the lowest scorers in the Southern Counties East Premier Division.

They’ve struck only seven times in 11 league games, leaving them second-bottom of the table.

They’re missing the goals of prolific striker Ryan Philpott, who rejoined Lydd in the summer, while Finn Dent recently departed for Whitstable.

The loan signing of Sam Wright from Herne Bay has helped and Scorer is determined to get his side firing.

Ton, beaten 1-0 at Punjab at the weekend, visit high-flying Holmesdale this Saturday (3pm).

“It sounds daft to say, given where we are in the table, but we’ve been playing really well,” said Scorer.

“I feel we’re a much stronger side than last year but we’re just not scoring goals.

“Sometimes that’s been a case of not creating enough chances with all the possession we’ve had and other times it’s not taking our chances.

“At the end of the day, seven goals in 11 games isn’t good enough.

“We’re paying the price but it’s not time to panic yet.

“Like last year, we were confident we would get ourselves out of trouble and we’ll keep working towards that.

“We’re playing well but we’re yet to have a really strong 90-minute performance.

“Saturday was another example where we gave Punjab a 10/15-minute spell and they took advantage of that.

“We’re winning and losing by fine margins and it’s down to a combination of things.

“There’s been a rebuild this year and we’ve recruited a lot of young players who are incredibly exciting to watch and offer a lot in terms of energy and quality on the ball, but there’s a level of naivety at times.

“We’re not managing games well enough at the moment and that comes from having a young group but we have to learn quite quickly.”

As well as Dent’s exit, Kennington - who don’t pay players, have also lost Lewis Allan to Hollands Blair and Joe Fisher to Lydd.

Scorer never has a problem with anyone moving on, instead embracing the chance to sign replacements.

“There’s no point dwelling on it,” he said.

“I see it as an opportunity to go out and look for someone else and try and find another gem.

“I quite enjoy going out watching games and trying to find new players.

“It’s one of the exciting parts of football management because I like to speak to players and sell them the project we’re on. It’s rewarding when people buy into that.”
