The winning mentality that fuelled Kennington’s rise under Dan Scorer has returned.
Ton’s fine form continued with a 3-1 success at high-flying Erith & Belvedere on Saturday.
Kyron Lightfoot gave them a half-time lead and while the Deres levelled straight after the break, Ton moved clear with goals from Fin Dent and Rajan Sahni.
Victory moved them up to 11th in the Southern Counties East Premier Division, nine points clear of the bottom two and 10 points off the play-offs with 12 matches remaining.
Scorer led Ton through the leagues after taking charge more than a decade ago and has seen the mentality of previous seasons return.
“We’re beginning to demonstrate just how much belief we have going into every game,” said Scorer.
“There is a real belief now that we should be going into every game fully confident of getting three points.
“It’s seen a switch in mindset and we’re beginning to show a real winning mentality, which is something that for so many years was always associated with the group of players I worked with.
“We had so much success in the first six or seven years of me being at the club and in recent years it’s been a bit more difficult.
“But in this stretch of games - I think it’s one league defeat now in the last 11 - we’re starting to show that belief that we can be one of the stronger sides in the division and I certainly feel that we can.
“If you look at results we’ve put on the board in the last eight or nine weeks we’ve taken 10 points from four of the top five, which is remarkable.
“If you offered wins against Larkfield, VCD, Erith & Belvedere and a draw against Fisher to anyone in the league, I think they’d snap your hand off.
“It goes to show that we are making huge strides and we’re now in a position where we can continue to keep building.
“One of the things we’ve spoken about is not looking at the season as an opportunity to survive, we’re looking at an opportunity to see how much of a stepping stone it can be and a building block for next season because there’s no limit to our performance levels.
“Every performance we put in that shows growth is an opportunity to build on.
“We’re in a good place, mentally we’re in a good place and so hopefully we can wrap things up in terms of survival in the next month because I think we’re eight points off our season tally for last year and we’ve got 12 games to go.
“I think that shows just how far we have come this year and then we’ll see what happens because if we can put those points on the board in the next three games then there’s a real opportunity for us to have a real good go come the back end of the season and see what could potentially be in store for us.”
