Danny Lye continues to stay grounded ahead of Ashford United’s fifth round FA Vase tie against former winners Dunston UTS at Homelands on Saturday.
The game maybe the club’s biggest since being re-formed, with the winners three games from Wembley, but the boss admits his approach in charge is no different to that as a player in his long career.
Lye said: “There is a little bit of hype being built around the game, but I have never got overwhelmed or excited, whoever the opposition.
“I am not very good at emotions, my job is to keep everyone else calm. The boys are up for it and excited.”
He added: “I have done a little bit of homework on Dunston and they look to have a bit of pace up front.
“They are fourth in their league, we are third, both play at the same level, so it should be quite an even contest.
“People talk about northern clubs being big and strong and set up 4-4-2, but I think that’s a bit of a myth these days.”
Dunston are set to be followed south by at least 40 fans, making the 660-mile round trip to Kent, with the team travelling overnight.
Extra-time will be played if the score is level after 90-minutes, with any replay scheduled for the following weekend, Saturday, February 6.
The winners earn prize money of £2,500.
Latest signing Matt Newman goes straight into the squad having joined on dual-registration from Folkestone.
Jack Healey and Charlie Dickens miss the tie due to being cup tied.
Meanwhile Dan Stubbs may need an operation on the knee injury he sustained in the previous round at Newport.
