VETERAN athlete Jenny Brown, of Ashford AC, romped to two golds, a silver and bronze in the European Masters Indoor Championships in San Sebastian.
Competing the W40 age group, Brown was a superb runner-up in the pentathlon with 4,112 points, and still had enough energy left to take golds in the high jump and triple jump.
In her favoured high jump event she set a European record for her age group with a leap of 1m 63cm and won the triple jump with 11m 05cm. She was edged out of another medal in the 800m, finishing fourth with 2:26.50.
Brown also was recruited into the GB squad in the W35 4x200m relay and earned a fine bronze medal in a run of 1:55.42. She is now looking forward to another competitive season with Ashford and the World Veterans’ Championships in Puerto Rico.
Meanwhile, on the domestic front, Ashford race walker Steve Holliday, who competes for Medway and Maidstone, took a gold and silver in the Kent race walking championships at Bexley.
Holliday won his 17th county title by taking the veterans’ gold in the 10,000m event with 62:55 with times restricted by the difficult walking conditions on the day. The time was also good enough to give him the silver medal in the seniors’ race as well.
