IT was an excellent week for the Kent Ladies championships with fine weather and the Ashford course in good condition producing some fine scores.
There was a 36-hole qualifying competition on the first day with the top 16 going into the matchplay stages.
The County title went to 22-year-old Pent Valley teacher Nicola Timmins from Sene Valley Golf Club who had a confident four and three win over the very promising youngster Claire Aitken of Mid Kent in the final on Thursday.
Consolation for the 16-year-old was to also help the Rochester and Cobham team with Danielle Gibb and Danielle Masters win the Team Shield.
Aitken had a fine 3/2 win over masters in their sem-final while Timmins beat Dartford’s Anne Wheble by the same margin.
Masters took the Jackson Trophy for the best 36-hole qualifying score with a fine gross 148 just ahead of Timmins on 150 (75,75), Wheble 150 (71,79), Ashford’s Helen Batt 151 (75, 76) and Aitken 155 (78,77). Batt bowed out to Aitken in the quarter finals one down.
The second flight title went to Angela Crouch who beat Kim Morris one up and the consolation plate was won by Ingrid Long with a net 64.
Ashford golfers dominated the first ever Kent Ladies GU Seniors championship which were staged at Ashford last week.
Honours went to Gerry Bray of Littlestone Golf Club, but who lives at Kingsnorth with a fine 6 and four win over Ashford Golf Club’s Hazel Bristow in an excellent climax to the inaugural competition.
