Hythe Town have made their second signing of the summer and there could be two more new arrivals at Reachfields within a week.
Right-back Ryan Cooper joined Hythe from Sittingbourne yesterday (Wednesday) and manager Scott Porter is in talks with two midfielders.
Cooper, a former Dartford youngster, had two spells with the Brickies either side of a short stint at Maidstone.
Porter said: “He’ll bring a lot of quality to the defence and can play anywhere along the back-four. I spoke to a lot of managers about him and they had nothing but praise for him.
“I spoke to (Maidstone manager) Jay Saunders and he couldn’t have spoken any higher of him. He played well against us for Sittingbourne as well.
“Right-back is an area I’ve been looking at. He’s someone I identified and I’m glad I’ve been able to bring him in.”
Hythe finished fourth in Ryman League Division 1 South last season and Porter says the club’s ambition is helping him attract new faces.
He said: “Our league position is a big plus. We want to push on and people like to hear that.
“We show them what the facilities are like at Hythe and it’s a well-run club, not in debt and there are good people around.
“It does go a long way when you try to sign players. They hear good things and want to be part of it. People want to win things and better themselves. It is a factor, the way we want to push on.”
On his midfield transfer targets, Porter said: “They’re in the same league as us. I want to get four in and we’ve got two, so we’re halfway there.
“Hopefully, I’ll get the other two pencilled in by the end of the week.”
