The Kent Grand National is the feature event on the South East Hunts Club’s six-race card in the county’s opening fixture of the 2015 season at Charing on Sunday.
Eleven horses have been entered for the three-mile, four-furlong trip, including two stand-out performers.
Minella For Steak, ridden by Jonjo O’Neill’s amateur Tommie O’Brien was sent off favourite at Brocklesby Park two weeks ago, only to unseat his rider, while Stress from Nicholas Wright’s East Anglia yard is probably his biggest rival having finished third at Larkhill in January, before winning at Higham three weeks later.
South East entries for the big race, include Rather Curious, Showman, Cold Mountain, Lord Multifix, Witch’s Hat and Thenford Ryde.
The opening Maiden over two miles, four furlongs, sees most of the 14 entries either previously unraced or having no form under rules.
Former area leading jockey Nick Pearce has three entries, Miss Alice Jones who pulled up at Barbury Castle in December, and debutants Jenna’s Pride and Inside Out, who also feature in the three-mile maiden, the last race on the card. Ashford trainer David Phelan also has three horses entered.
Thirteen entries in the Restricted, include the Pearce-trained Come On You and Running In Heels.
Sarah Hall’s Country Foolery who ran well on both occasions at Charing last year, finishing second and fourth, is set for his seasonal reappearance, while Bilsington-based Libby Lawson will be looking for better runs from two entries De Waiting Game who unseated at the first at Godstone and Did You Ever who pulled up on ground softer than he likes.
The course is at the junction of the A20 and A252, (sat nav TN27 0JS), with the first race off at noon.
Entry is £10 per person with under- 16s and car parking free.
