Kennington manager Dan Scorer believes the next six weeks will define their season

Dan Scorer believes Kennington are entering a defining point in their season.

Ton beat Stansfeld 2-0 at Homelands last weekend to move five points clear of the Southern Counties East Premier Division drop zone.

They’re up to 15th and this Saturday (3pm) visit the side immediately above them in Whitstable.

Scorer’s men end the year with a local derby at bottom club Lydd Town on December 28 before taking on a number of top sides early in the new year.

“The next six weeks are massive,” said Ton boss Scorer.

“I personally think the next six weeks define our season.

“We’ve got two big games against Whitstable and Lydd coming up to end the year, and we go into January playing three of the current top five, plus Glebe, who are on the periphery of the play-offs and in unbelievable form.

“So it’s going to be tough but if we can get through the next six weeks continuing to pick up results, and putting in good performances, I think we can, by the end of January, be looking in a much stronger position than where we were last year.

“I think we’ve more than doubled our points tally from this time last year, which is incredible.

“The weight of expectation on us is minimal.

“We’re one of only a few sides who don’t operate with a budget, so we’re massively over-performing if anything.

“There’s lots to be positive about and we’ve got five or six lads back from injuries and holidays, so we’re going into a tough period with the squad in the best place it’s been in all season.

“That can only work in our favour, I’m sure, and I’m looking forward to having a selection headache as opposed to ringing round trying to make sure I’ve got a 16-man squad for the weekend.”

Rajan Sahni gave Kennington a half-time lead against Stansfeld, with Sam Wright scoring an injury-time clincher.

Scorer, whose side are unbeaten since the end of October, said: “We’re in an interesting position now because a lot of hard work has gone into the last seven or eight weeks and we’ve seen the rewards.

“Saturday was another example. I don’t think we were at our best but what’s pleasing is we’ve started to show a level of character that enables us to dig in and get three points in games where we’re not great.

“That’s a real positive and we want to continue to look forward with that.”
