Road runners, young and old, will be out on Ashford’s streets on Sunday for the hugely popular Givaudan Ashford 10k road race starting and finishing at the Julie Rose Stadium in Kennington.

Another monster field is expected for this popular event on the racing calendar where fun runners and charity runners line-up alongside some of the best road runners in the county and beyond.

Runners from the Continent will also joining the medal chase with the top athletes chasing the £200 winner’s bonus and also the honour of the Kent County title.

But this is a race that also attracts fun runners and charity runners joining in the excitement of running on a closed town centre route.

And it is a family occasion as there is also the chance for the youngsters to show their talents at the junior runs staged in and around the athletics stadium while the adults are out pounding the roads.

The main event starts at 10am and takes the runners through Kennington and into the town centre before going through Willesborough and back under the M20 to track back to the stadium.

The junior events, sponsored by County Square, for the Under 15s and younger age groups gets under way at 11.30am.

Last year there was local success with the men’s and women’s winners coming from Folkestone in Andy Welch and Rona Loubser respectively and with the Kent Championship and Grand Prix titles adding to the competitiveness this year the big field is sure to be swollen by a top class hunt for the impressive trophies.

The race has been going since 1989 and this year will be started by Ashford AC’s Olympic runner Lisa Dobriskey.
