ASHFORD Town were grateful for a floodlight failure at Bourne Park during their Ryman League Division 1 South clash against Kent rivals Sittingbourne on Tuesday.

Referee Irvine Woodward called the game off minutes before the end of the first half, with Town trailing 2-0.

Mr Woodward noted a problem goalkeeper Simon Overland was having judging crosses due to one of the six pylons failing and first called the players off after 28 minutes.

The broken floodlight was switched back on after almost an hour's delay, but failed again leaving the referee with little choice but to abandon the game.
