A stunning late strike from Paul Jones settled a pulsating cup tie at Homelands as the Nuts and Bolts finally overcame a dogged, ten-man Leatherhead.
With just three minutes left Jones produced a finish worthy of winning any cup game. Leatherhead striker Tom Hutchings had twice pulled his side level after Mitchell Sherwood and Anthony Hogg had put Town ahead.
The Tanners ended the game with ten-men after Tony Cuff was dismissed for two bookable offences.
Midway through the first-half Town deservedly went ahead. Sherwood cut in from the left flank, bundled his way through two tackles and coolly slotted the ball past Robinson into the far corner to notch his fourth goal of the season
On 54 minutes the ball broke to the pacy Hutchings on the right-wing and the striker unleashed a powerful effort that nestled into the far corner past the despairing dive of Riley. Honours were even, but the parity lasted just two minutes. Hogg lined up a free-kick from 40-yards out and towards the right wing. With all the big men up from the back Hogg swung the ball in with his cultured left foot but instead of finding one of it’s intended targets the ball flew into the top corner past the flailing hand of Robinson.
Bernard showed fantastic pace to out-sprint Jimmy Elford before being hauled down in the box by Sean Ray. Referee Wood had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Hutchings duly converted the penalty for his second of the afternoon and proceeding were level again with 18 minutes to go.
Jones settled it decisively when he picked-up a hopeful knock forward from Ray at the edge of the Leatherhead penalty-area. He then unleashed cracking a sizzling right-footed drive past Robinson.
